Information Technology Unit
The IT unit of the capacity building institute is responsible for giving information technology related services and consultancy to businesses. Although there are several noticeable exceptions, the usage of Information and Communication Technology in Ethiopia has traditionally been limited to word processing and desktop publishing activities. Most companies still use manual systems for their record keeping, financial management and statistical analysis. Even fewer companies use computing services to optimize their resources, evaluate their performances and disseminate information. Advertisements through the Internet are virtually non-existent. Online Transactions and Banking are almost unheard of. Scientific computations required by industries for solving problems related to their core businesses and optimization is not implemented or is done through foreign consultants. The Capacity Building Institute will introduce the applications of ICT into the Ethiopian market and promote its professional use.
The Unit's Mission
The unit's purpose is to conduct professional research in information technology and computing, to provide high quality information technology services, software development, computer networking and Internet services; to seek and implement ways of utilizing information and communication technology, and to participate in similar activities that use the Internet and ICT technology.
We are dedicated to make the unit a major player in developing the capacity of Ethiopia in the context of information technology. We maintain the concept that the IT unit seeks out and satisfies undiscovered and unsatisfied applications of information technology in Ethiopia. The unit believes in creating an innovative and visionary environment within itself and produces results that have real and meaningful value for Ethiopia.
The unit will provide its services to the government, private companies, industries, the public at large and Ethiopians living overseas.
